British F3 Driver - Cian Carey #190

Cian Carey

Irishman Cian Carey will join the BRDC British F3 Championship for the forthcoming Donington Park rounds this weekend (22-23 September), with the Chris Dittmann Racing team.

Carey, who currently leads the F3 Cup championship standings, stays with the team with whom he has secured six wins so far this season, including doubles at Silverstone and Snetterton.

The 24-year-old has plenty of single-seater experience, with this being his second season in F3 Cup. He started his career in saloons with three years in the Irish Touring Car Championship driving a Honda Integra, securing multiple wins over three years, before moving to single seaters.

He competed in the BOSS Ireland Championship and claimed the crown in 2016, securing five wins and an additional seven podiums in a Formula Renault machine, while racing against considerably more powerful cars. His success saw him claim the Irish Young Racing Driver of the Year award in the same season.

He moved up to MSV’s F3 Cup in 2017, and impressed with a win and several podiums in his first season of racing in the UK. His season culminated in further success by winning the Leinster Trophy in his homeland, the same prize Ayrton Senna won 35 years prior. Remaining in F3 Cup, he has stepped up a gear this season and has dominated the championship so far, holding a 27 point lead with two weekends remaining.

Carey now moves up to BRDC British F3  for at least the Donington rounds, after a successful evaluation of the car with the team at Silverstone at the end of August.
