GB3 in association with the BRDC race winner Ollie Bearman has been signed by the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA), after a highly successful season that saw him win both the Italian and ADAC F4 Championships, in addition to his nine-race cameo in GB3.

The 16-year-old, who is also a finalist for the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award, impressed at the FDA Scouting World Finals held at Maranello last month, and joins the academy that has nurtured Charles Leclerc, Jules Bianchi, Lance Stroll, Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott over the past decade.

Bearman commented: “I am really happy to have been selected to join the Ferrari Driver Academy. It is a great way to end what has been a really good racing season for me. Just spending a week in Maranello was in itself an amazing experience, especially getting to drive at the Fiorano track.

“Now, I can’t wait to start working at the Academy and to be part of the Ferrari family and to see what the future holds for me.”

Bearman won in GB3 at Snetterton in August with Fortec Motorsports, while also taking a double podium at the season opener at Brands Hatch as well as a second place at Silverstone. He won 17 races across his two F4 campaigns, and took nine further podiums. He was also seventh overall in the recent FIA F3 test at Valencia, where he tested for Ferrari-linked squad Prema.

Ferrari Driver Academy head Marco Matassa believes the legendary Italian marque has uncovered another future star driver. “During the days spent at Maranello and Fiorano, Bearman showed all the aptitude he so clearly demonstrated during his Formula 4 season.

"Apart from his basic speed, he has other important qualities, such as the ability to give good feedback to the engineers, as well as understanding in which areas he can improve, while putting into practice what he was told to do before going out on track for the first time.”
