Linus Lundqvist, the 2018 BRDC British F3 Champion, claimed two more podiums in the Indy Lights Championship at Laguna Seca last weekend, to secure third place overall in the USA’s leading feeder series to IndyCar.
As a result, the Swedish driver will be rewarded with a maiden IndyCar test drive at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on 29 October, a venue he won from pole at earlier this season. The team he will test with will be confirmed at a later date.
Lundqvist secured second and third places from the two races at Laguna Seca, and now has 10 Indy Lights podiums this year, including two victories.
He is now focusing his attentions on securing an IndyCar drive for 2022, with the test opportunity potentially opening doors.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be heading into my first IndyCar test next month,” he said. “It doesn’t normally matter if you finish third, fourth or fifth in a championship, but here it makes a genuine difference, and again that’s what I love about American motorsport.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to get introduced to the IndyCar teams and show what I can do. I’m looking forward to taking on a proper test, at a track I know quite well, in one of these incredibly fast cars.”
