Trevor Carlin has heaped praise on his latest champion Zak O’Sullivan, after the 16-year-old wrapped up the GB3 in association with the BRDC title at Donington Park today.
The British driver set a new qualifying lap record this morning and then converted that to a lights-to-flag win, his sixth of the year, to confirm the first title in his car racing career.
Carlin, who has aided the career development of Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris, Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Takuma Sato and Yuki Tsunoda to name but a few commented: “Zak has driven like a champion all season. He is incredibly composed and mature in and out of the car and as a Team Principal he’s the kind of driver you know you can rely on to get the job done.
“At just 16, without a doubt he has a great future ahead of him, and I’m very proud we were able to be part of his story with a championship win in the GB3 Championship.
“A big thank you also to the team, who have once again done a phenomenal job to maintain incredibly high standards and take another championship title.”
O’Sullivan joins Enaam Ahmed, Clement Novalak and Kaylen Frederick as champions in GB3, and its predecessor BRDC British F3, and can further extend his points lead in tomorrow’s final two contests of the year, while Carlin can also claim the inaugural Teams’ Championship.
O'Sullivan's link with the team will stretch further, as he will receive a two day FIA Formula 3 test with the squad at Valencia at the start of November as part of his prize for winning the championship.
