This year’s GB3 champion will receive a two-day prize FIA Formula 3 test, which will take place during the official end of season event at Valencia on 1-3 November.
The test, which will be funded by GB3 organiser MotorSport Vision (MSV), further strengthens the link between the two championships, with Clement Novalak and Kaylen Frederick, the two most recent champions of GB3’s predecessor BRDC British F3, both graduating directly to the F1 feeder series.
Novalak has become one of the leading stars in FIA Formula 3, taking a podium finish in his first race weekend in 2020 before going on to finish third overall in 2021, helping his Trident Motorsport squad to claim the Teams’ Championship in the process.
Other recent graduates to impress in FIA F3 this year include Johnathan Hoggard, who became a regular points scorer for Jenzer Motorsport and almost matched his teammate’s total despite competing in three fewer races.
This year’s GB3 contender Ayrton Simmons also made his FIA F3 debut this season, in the final round at year at Sochi. Simmons, who currently lies second in GB3, finished ahead of several significantly more experienced drivers despite no testing whatsoever ahead of his debut.
As well as drivers graduating from GB3 into FIA F3, two of GB3’s teams, Carlin and Hitech GP, are competitors in the championship, allowing for a direct progression from GB3 into the F1 paddock.
Carlin’s Zak O’Sullivan is in prime position to claim the test prize, simply needing to finish the first GB3 race of Donington Park decider weekend to wrap up the 2021 GB3 Championship in association with the BRDC.
