Browning and Voisin among final-10 contenders for Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award

04 August 2022

GB3 aces Luke Browning and Callum Voisin are among the shortlist of 10 drivers in contention for this year’s Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award.

Both have excelled so far in the 2022 GB3 Championship, with Browning taking five race wins, more than any other contender, and challenging for the title, while Voisin has two victories to his name having made rapid progress on his graduation from Ginetta Juniors.

The list of 10 drivers will be shortened to four by the time of the assessments at Silverstone, where drivers will undergo two days of testing in MotorSport Vision Formula 2 cars, plus GT3 and LMP3 machinery.

The winner will be decided by a panel of judges, headed by BRDC Vice-President Derek Warwick, alongside previous award winners Andrew Kirkaldy, Alexander Sims and Darren Turner, plus multiple IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti, BTCC legend Jason Plato, Lola and McLaren designer Mark Williams, top engineer Leena Gade, leading commentator Ian Titchmarsh and Autosport magazine Chief Editor Kevin Turner.

The prize for this year’s winner includes £200,000 and a Formula 1 test prize with Aston Martin.

GB4 Championship leader Nikolas Taylor is among the other nominees, as well as former GB3 (and championship predecessor BRDC British F3) drivers Ollie Bearman, Jamie Chadwick and Louis Foster. The judges also reserve the right to introduce a wildcard entry for drivers that excel in the final months of the season.

GB3 has a strong record of success in the award across the past decade, with six of the last seven winners having raced in the category, including George Russell, Will Palmer, Lando Norris and last year’s winner Zak O’Sullivan.
