Granfors starts Friday on top at Silverstone

29 July 2022

Fortec Motorsport’s Joel Granfors set the fastest time in the opening test session of the day at Silverstone this morning (Friday).

The Swede’s best effort of 1m53.297s came over 10 minutes before the end of the 40-minute session, and was enough to put him just over a quarter of a second clear of championship rival Luke Browning.

The Hitech driver’s time came later on in the session, deposing Elite’s Tom Lebbon, who ended up third and just 0.042s further back.

It was a good session all-round for Elite, with Lebbon’s teammate John Bennett setting the fourth fastest time, just over a tenth of a second further back.

James Hedley was the lead JHR runner in fifth, 0.021s away from Bennett and nearly two tenths ahead of Douglas Motorsport’s Max Esterson in sixth.

Matthew Rees ensured both JHR cars were inside the top-seven, three thousandths of a second away from Esterson with Cian Shields eighth and less than a tenth further back.

McKenzy Cresswell (Chris Dittmann Racing) and Roberto Faria (Carlin) completed the top-10, which was covered by just over eight tenths of a second, while less than 1.5 seconds separated Granfors and Tommy Smith in 18th.

The second session of the day is due to commence at 13.15.
