Louis Sharp, Tymek Kucharczyk and Gerrard Xie were the top-three finishers in the qualifying session for the GB3 Championship at Donington Park.
Here's how each driver reacted at the end of the session.
Pole, Louis Sharp, Rodin Motorsport
“That could’ve been super crucial; I think when we look at the end of the season this could’ve been the point that maybe means we won, but who knows, there’s still a long way to go but super happy with the pole position and the team gave me a great car so thank you to the engineers. Obviously having been dry in the last two days of testing it was a bit different going into a wet Quali, so I hadn’t driven here in the GB3 car in the wet, I actually probably haven’t driven here in the wet for probably over a year, so it's been a while. But really happy to get this pole position, and like I said in terms of the championship it’s critical, so yeah, I can’t be happier.
"I think wet or dry [for the race] I’ll be happy. I think we proved we’re happy in both conditions but in terms of going around I've got a good feel where the grip is and so I drive to the limit. To be fair, we’ve done enough driving in the wet in the GB3 car so far this year so although at different tracks it’s not too different, so just giving it the best I can. It was super close and obviously I only just crossed the line before the red flag came out, so yeah can’t be happier.”
Second, Tymek Kucharczyk, Hitech Pulse-Eight:
“I was on a really good lap that would have put me in a bit better position but P2, I’ll take that I think. You know, it’s not a bad starting position and considering how much chaos there was during that qualifying session it’s not bad, and I think we’ve had the pace so we can fight for the win.
“It’s hard to overtake on this track, so again the start will be very important and we will see what we can do. I think the pace looks really strong, nevertheless we will give it everything we’ve got and try to fight for the win.
“I don’t care much, everyone has the same, I feel strong in both wet and dry so whatever the weather we will try our best.”
Third, Gerrard Xie, Hitech Pulse-Eight:
“It was good for me, the first half of the session we were strong, and I think we were P1 for nearly all of the session. I made a mistake after I did my fastest lap and went off the track, and again I was on a good lap and it was suddenly red flagged which was unfortunate. It’s a good starting point and a massive thanks to the team for the car and the set-ups. I’m really happy.
“It's fun, the track is high speed and you need to be very committed in Quali. I really like Donington.”
