GB3 Silverstone race one: Kucharczyk dominates to claim maiden win at Silverstone

27 April 2024

Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Tymek Kucharczyk led from start to finish as he claimed his first GB3 Championship race victory at Silverstone.

Having claimed a double pole in qualifying, he made a good start and pulled away from the field, finishing clear of Elite Motorsport’s McKenzy Cresswell and teammate Will Macintyre.

Championship leader Louis Sharp took fourth for Rodin Motorsport, after fending off a feisty mid-race battle with teammate Ugo Ugochukwu, who fell behind the third Hitech Pulse-Eight car of Gerrard Xie late on, with the Chinese driver taking fifth and the American sixth.

Elite's Jarrod Waberski moved up to seventh place after an entertaining scrap with James Hedley, who took eighth for VRD Racing by Arden.

FIA F3 race winner Martinius Stenshorne was one of the race's main movers as he climbed from 14th on the grid to ninth for Chris Dittmann Racing, and finishing ahead of JHR Developments' John Bennett, who held on to his 10th place starting position.

But the race was all about Kucharczyk at the front. Cruelly denied of a double pole at this circuit on a technicality last year, there was no repeat this time around as the Polish driver controlled the fourth contest of the season.

At times up to a second a lap quicker than his rivals, his eventual winning margin of eight seconds across 10 laps is one of the biggest in GB3 history. And he has the chance to do it again from pole position tomorrow morning.
