What they said: Silverstone race two

28 April 2024

Will Macintyre, Ugo Ugochukwu and Tymek Kucharczyk were the top-three drivers in the second race of the weekend at Silverstone. Here's how each driver reacted at the end of the contest:

Winner, Will Macintyre, Hitech Pulse-Eight:
"It was brilliant, I had an unreal start, much better than yesterday. From then on, I was just managing the tyre. Obviously I didn’t manage it too well compared to more experienced drivers like Ugo and Tymek. The last three laps, I had no rears on the car. It was a really good race and I’m glad I made it interesting for the viewers out there.

"[On why Ugochukwu closed up at the end] Just a mistake on my part, I was trying something, making sure I kept the lead out there and I just made a simple mistake. That was it, Ugo was right up behind me from then on and I was defending for the last three laps.

"Luckily the year of Ginetta Juniors came into play there. I think the Hitech car is really really good and its shown that in the past couple of years so need to keep doing what we’ve been doing this weekend and do it in all the other rounds and it’ll be absolutely brilliant."

Second, Ugo Ugochukwu, Rodin Motorsport:
"It was a really good race, we got a really good start, immediately into P2. The middle part of the race, I was trying to keep the tyres alive but also both Hitech boys were quite quick. I was defending a bit from P3. But towards the end, we came back really strong and were really good in the middle part of the track. We got really close to the win, would’ve liked one more lap to try and go again but to be fair Will did a great job defending and on our side we’re really happy to end off with this P2. I’d like to thank the Rodin team, its been a really strong weekend, we’ve been building from what we learned in Oulton Park and I’m building to next week to try and get a win.

"At the end I really thought we had a chance for the win, but the podium was still really good. I'm happy to finish the weekend like this.

"I’m really happy with how its going, we’ve been consistent with pretty much all the sessions throughout these first two rounds and I think on my side, just keep improving with this car, but the time we get to the next challenge we should definitely be fighting for podiums."

Third, Tymek Kucharczyk, Hitech Pulse-Eight:
"It could have been better in the last race, if not for a little mistake on the start, we could charge for the win. But that’s racing, I need to learn on that and improve myself. We need to see why it happened. I’m confident that we would have had the pace to win.

"I think we think we had the pace for the win, we proved it in quali. With a bit of dirty air, it’s never easy to follow. And tyre management, its important to not over heat them and there was not many wet spots on the track. A good race overall, happy to bring the podium back but I’d expect a bit more from myself."
