Christodoulou commits to GB3 with Arden for remainder of 2022

10 June 2022

Arden Motorsport has confirmed that Nico Christodoulou will remain with the team for rest of the 2022 GB3 Championship season, after an encouraging debut at Donington Park.

The 17-year-old Canadian quickly got up to speed at the East Midlands circuit, shaving nearly four seconds off his best time through testing into qualifying, where he was an immediate top-10 contender and just half a second away from pole position.

That very encouraging performance came despite the event being the first time he’d sat in the Tatuus MSV-022 GB3 car and driven on a European circuit. After such a promising debut, the Ontario resident has now elected to remain in UK motorsport and complete the season with Arden.

Christodoulou's continued stint in GB3 will also extend his relationship with Velocity Racing Development, the squad he's raced with in F4 and Formula Regional in the USA, with the GB3 car being run jointly by Arden and the American team. The two outfits announced a collaboration earlier this season.

Christodoulou said: “I’m very excited to be running the rest of the 2022 GB3 Championship with Arden Motorsport. I loved driving the car at Donington and I was keen to find a way to continue so I can experience the other British tracks and continue my development with the car and team. I’m ready and excited to see what I can do and we’re aiming for top results!”

The addition of Christodoulou to Arden’s full-time line-up means the team will continue with three cars, with the Canadian racing alongside Britain’s Alex Connor and the USA’s David Morales. Up until now, the team had operated with a two-car entry since its debut in 2021.

Arden Motorsport Team Manager Jack Woodhouse said: “We were really happy with Nico’s performance at Donington Park and there was no hesitation from both sides to extend the arrangement to cover the rest of the season. Given how quick he was with no seat time before the Donington weekend, we’re really confident that Nico will be able to get even closer to the front over the remaining five rounds. For us as a team, it’s great to strengthen our full line-up to three cars in GB3 for the first time as well."

Velocity Racing Development's Dan Mitchell added: "It's great to have Nico complete the season with Arden, not only strengthening our transatlantic partnership, but also being a strong representative of what American powerhouse VRD is capable of. Being able to train and develop talented American drivers on home soil and feed them to Europe in GB3 creates continuous value for Arden, VRD and the GB3 Championship.”
