Catching up with Cresswell – McKenzy analyses 2022

12 December 2022

McKenzy Cresswell was a podium finisher in his debut GB3 campaign in 2022, as he adapted well to the next step up the ladder with Chris Dittmann Racing.

His season highlight came with a third place finish at Spa-Francorchamps, during a weekend when he was a regular towards the sharp end of the grid, and there were 10 further top-10 finishes during the season.

Here’s his season summary.

Best moment
The best moment was definitely Spa race two. After being forced into the gravel and dropping back to ninth on lap one it was really rewarding to drive back through the field and finish third.

Toughest moment
Silverstone race two. Having a crash is never a nice feeling but flipping multiple times and being forced to sit out the next race is not something I wish to experience again.

Favourite race of the year
Last round Donington race two. It was a very challenging race as the conditions were changing every lap and we hadn’t got any wet running at all that weekend. It was very satisfying making my way up into the top three from being well outside the top-10 at the start. Although it was a bitter sweet finish losing P3 on the last lap to a driver on slicks, but in terms of enjoyment that was the race I had the most fun in.

Favourite driver to race against this year
I always enjoy racing my teammate because they are the person you know the most about. Being able to see their data and video makes you understand more about their driving style and makes for a different feeling when racing them. Brandon (Oxley) and I had some good battles this year.

That what if moment
Brands Hatch qualifying. I felt really confident going into quali. The car was feeling hooked up and a top three position was on. I struggled with traffic throughout the session and didn’t maximize the potential that was there, which is a real shame because I genuinely felt that we could be fighting at the front.

If I could race anything next year, it would be…
I love racing single-seaters and that is what I will be doing next year. I can’t announce exactly what that will be yet, but all will be revealed soon!

I’m going to spend my winter doing…
Most of my time over winter will be spent at school, but I will be training hard in the gym and on the simulator to be as well prepared for 2023 as I can be.
