Joel Granfors, Callum Voisin and Roberto Faria were the top-three finishers in the first GB3 race of the weekend at Silverstone. Here’s how each driver reacted at the end of the contest.
Winner, Joel Granfors, Fortec Motorsport:
“It was a good race, the balance felt amazing. I got a good start off the line and managed to get Voisin down to turn one. Then he came back into Maggotts and Becketts and we went side by side, and I saw Sagrera was close behind him, so I went to the left because I knew Voisin was going to need to take the inside. From there I just pulled the gap and I saw Voisin had passed Sagrera but by then I already had a comfortable lead and wasn’t too worried. At the end I was just saving the tyres for the last race.
“It started to rain, or at least it felt like it at the beginning, and mid-race, but towards the end it stopped. I was a bit worried for a second but we’ll take the win!
“I hope I can do as good a start in the next race and have a great race in race two as well.”
Second, Callum Voisin, Carlin:
“I had a bit of a poor start and dropped down to third, but then I managed to get back up to second. After that, our pace was really good, so a little bit frustrating that I didn’t manage to get the start right, but it was a clean race and good points, so I’m happy.
“I don’t know where Javier [Sagrera] finished but we [the Carlin drivers] all seemed to be in the mix and the car was really good, so a massive thanks to the team.”
Third, Roberto Faria, Carlin:
“I actually overtook Javier before that [the move on lap nine] but then in the first corner I was around the outside and he squeezed me off. It’s quite hard to see but it was a great race, I came from seventh to third. I think it was a tough move and I didn’t have anywhere to go, we would have crashed if I didn’t do what I did. For me it was a good race, the car was amazing, the team did a really good job.
“I overtook [John] Bennett around the outside of the second last corner at Brooklands, it was quite tough there and he didn’t expect me to send it there! The car was great, I cannot complain and through the high speed corners the car was just perfect. It was a good race for the team.”
