What they said – Snetterton race two

26 June 2022

Luke Browning, Joel Granfors and Javier Sagrera were the top three finishers in a tense second race of the weekend at Snetterton. Here’s how each driver reacted at the end of the event.

Winner, Luke Browning, Hitech GP:
“It was a good race, Joel was really quick, as expected coming into the weekend. Obviously it’s difficult to overtake around here and I was just keeping my head down and looking forward. It might not have been the cleanest race, but it’s a win.

“He was maybe quicker at the start but we went for longevity and my tyres didn’t clean as quickly as we’d thought. But either way the pace is something we need to look at back in the awning later on to see if we can find a couple of tenths here or there, but I’m sure between my driving and the guys back there we can find it.

“I want to go as far forward as possible in race three, don’t crash. It’s a full reverse grid so it’s something to look forward to later on. There could be some carnage, or maybe not, but it’ll be good fun regardless and I’ll try and get past as many people as possible.”

Second, Joel Granfors, Fortec Motorsport:
“It felt like we had the pace but we couldn’t get past. I tried a couple of times down into turn one and two, but it’s tough around here.

“I think I had very good pace, especially in the last sector, we were catching him by a pretty big margin. If I could have overtaken him, I think I could have lost him.

“It looks like it now [a straight fight between Browning and Granfors], but we’ll see at places like Spa, maybe things will change there.

“Race three will be a great race, there’s usually a lot of chaos in the last one so hopefully we can use that to get up the field.”

Third, Javier Sagrera, Carlin:
“It was a very good race, starting from P6, I made a very good start around the outside of turn one. But it paid off, and it’s been a very difficult start to the season for me, and we deserve this third place more than anyone around here!

“He [Matthew Rees] was very quick. It’s very difficult to overtake so I knew if I got good exits I’d be able to keep him behind. But overall it’s been a good race, I lacked a bit of pace compared to the guys in front, they were battling for quite a long time so that kept us in the game if something happened.

“I was a bit frustrated from the start of the season, not being able to really get the pace I wanted to. The team are doing a great job putting out very competitive cars, so it was only a matter of time for us to put everything together.”
