What they said: Silverstone qualifying

07 May 2022

Joel Granfors, Tom Lebbon and Luke Browning were the fastest three drivers in qualifying at Silverstone this morning. Here’s how each driver reacted at the end of the 20 minute session on the Grand Prix circuit.

Double pole: Joel Granfors, Fortec Motorsport:
“We’ve been really quick around here. We saw in pre-season testing and during FP1 and FP2 as well. But I wasn’t expecting to get pole, certainly not a double pole, an awesome job by the team and I love this track,

“It’s going to be a big advantage starting on the left hand side now, that’s where all the cars have been driving this weekend. It was the same at Oulton but pole was on the right. Hopefully we can get a good start off the line and try to pull away from the others.

“I don’t know what to do with the prize money, a new set of tyres or something for the next race!”

Second, Tom Lebbon, Elite Motorsport:
“It’s a good result, especially for a track like this. Overall it’s a good result.

“The main aim is to not stall like we did at Oulton Park! I want to get off the line well and keep my nose clean really.

“It’s a strong track for me and the team so going forward it’s looking good. It’s a nice chance to kick start the season for us.”

Third, Luke Browning, Hitech GP:
“Yeah not bad, it was damage limitation as we didn’t quite have the pace for pole today. But I think P3 is good. I’ll need to maximise the race today and both races tomorrow, and it’s just a points game at this point.

“We’ll have a two car tow if nothing else exciting happens off the start. We’ll go for the overtaking but it’s early on in the season and it would be daft to throw away points if we don’t have to! But if we have the chance to win I’ll go for it!”
