What they said: Silverstone race one

Joel Granfors stormed to a maiden GB3 victory in the first race of the weekend at Silverstone. He finished less than a second clear of Hitech GP championship leader Luke Browning, while Tom Lebbon claimed a first podium of the year in third. Here’s how each driver reacted after the race.

Winner, Joel Granfors, Fortec Motorsport:
“It got closer towards the end. At the beginning I had a two second gap and at a few places I was just counting how close he was. And then towards the end he started catching up a bit but then it was too late.

“Hopefully we can do the same tomorrow, try and pull away in the beginning and keep that gap.”

Second, Luke Browning, Hitech GP:
“A proper step forward for us there, that was nice. That was exactly the step we wanted to take and I’m happy with the points we’ve got. It was nice clean racing from everyone. A big congrats to these guys [Granfors] who did a great job in qualifying, they were a step ahead in. But it looks like we’ve made a few tweaks, I’ve sorted out my driving a bit and we’re right back up on the pace again, so happy days.

“We start from the same place tomorrow and we’ll have the reverse grid race to make up a few positions as well. That’ll be really interesting this weekend with the different philosophies and set ups everyone’s been using.”

Third, Tom Lebbon, Elite Motorsport:
“It’s a good result to get our first podium of the year, and my second one in the championship. It’s a good result and good for the championship I think.

“It’s definitely given us some confidence. We lost touch with the front two a little bit, but the pace is there I think.”
