O’Sullivan equals FIA F3 win record in Hungary

24 July 2023

2021 GB3 champion Zak O’Sullivan has equalled the win record in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, after his latest triumph in the series in Hungary.

A dominant victory in Sunday’s Feature Race was O’Sullivan’s fourth win of the year, and puts him level at the top of the all-time win rankings for the series, alongside Frederik Vesti, Dennis Hauger and Jack Doohan.

The 18-year-old’s win was perhaps his best yet, as he made an ideal getaway from pole position, and extended his lead throughout the contest, crossing the line 2.3 seconds clear of teammate Dino Beganovic, and moved up to second place in the championship standings as a result, with four races remaining across events at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza still to come.

“A really good race, tyre degradation has been really high all weekend, so it was kind of a race of management” he said.

“As a team we’ve had really good pace all weekend, so I built a gap early on. It got a bit tricky towards the end as the tyres started to fall off, but an awesome weekend for myself and the team with a 1-2. Looking forward to Spa.”
