What they said: Spa race two

03 June 2023

Alex Dunne, Callum Voisin and McKenzy Cresswell were the top-three drivers in the second race of the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. Here’s how the trio reacted afterwards.

Winner, Alex Dunne, Hitech Pulse-Eight:
“Ultimately it was the same goal, trying to get a good start and biding my time, and then going for the move when I knew it was going to come off. We made a little change to the car after race one for race two and it definitely improved it again, so I’m really happy.

“I managed to get a little bit closer [to Voisin] earlier on, obviously without the safety car this time it happened a bit quicker, and the change we made to the car made it a bit more comfortable, and I was able to get my head down and pull away.”

Second, Callum Voisin, Rodin Carlin:
“It’s tough, but I’m still quite happy with the result. I’ve got some good points so that’s all we could really hope for. I got a bit of a bad start so I’ve got to work on that, but apart from that I’m quite happy.

“I guess that [the lap one overtake] just shows the power of the slipstream around here. Getting a bad start and managing to retake the lead, it’s such a long straight going down into Les Combes. I can still be happy, but it’s frustrating I guess.”

Third, McKenzy Cresswell, Elite Motorsport:
“They were very fast. I had a really good start and got into the lead, I had to take the chance when it came because I knew I couldn’t really hang with them at the front. I was quick in the middle sector but even if I could have stayed in front after the Kemmel Straight, I still don’t think I would have won that race because I couldn’t quite match them at the top end. But still, it’s good points and P3 is a good result, considering the rough start to the season we had, so I’ll take it.

“It’s a long race tomorrow, 25 minutes, and you can overtake around here as has been shown in the first two races. So I’m really looking forward to it, I’m going to get my elbows out and hopefully get a good result.”
