Hedley hoping to close championship gap at Zandvoort

10 October 2023

Arden VRD’s James Hedley remains in the championship hunt heading to Zandvoort this weekend, and is aiming to score big to close the gap to the drivers ahead of him.

The British driver sits fourth in the standings at present, with two wins to his name already. Though he sits 77 points off the championship summit, he heads to the Netherlands still well within mathematical possibility of taking the crown.

“Yes I can still win it” he said. “It is possible, so I won’t give up on that as these things can happen. My main goal this weekend is to maximise what I have and take better results than the people challenging for the top three in the championship.”

He’s expecting some fierce racing as GB3 visits the home of the Dutch Grand Prix for the first time, and reckons the unfamiliarity of the venue could create a surprise or two.

“It could make the grid a bit more spread out, mainly from the teams not having as much experience compared to the circuits we usually race on and know so well. We’ll need to get set ups right, and there could be a bit more wheel to wheel racing as a result.”

Hedley has contributed towards Arden VRD’s strongest campaign in GB3 to date, with only one team exceeding the Banbury squad’s tally of four wins so far.

“I want to score good points this weekend and bring home a trophy for the team, which they very much deserve.

“They’ve done an amazing job this year, turning it around and having their best season yet.

“They have benefited me massively, mentally I have the best support from them. And we are all loving this journey so far.”
