Voisin retains Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup with double Donington Park pole

21 October 2023

Rodin Carlin’s championship leader Callum Voisin started the deciding GB3 weekend in perfect style, by claiming his fifth and sixth pole positions of the season. In doing so, he claimed the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup for the second season in succession, and will claim a £2,000 prize at the end of the weekend.

With damp conditions, times tumbled throughout the session, with McKenzy Cresswell and Voisin exchanging top spot with almost every lap.

But it was Voisin’s 1m32.439s effort with five minutes remaining of the 20 minute session that secured pole, while his second best time was just 0.05s slower, putting him at the front of the field in race two also.

A late time from JHR’s Matthew Rees put him just 0.013s away from Voisin, while another title challenger in the form of Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Alex Dunne was third fastest, 0.154s away from top spot.

Dunne’s teammate Souta Arao continued his strong end to the season with fourth on the race one grid, just two thousandths of a second away from Dunne and 0.030s ahead of Arden VRD’s James Hedley.

Fortec’s Max Esterson was sixth, and less than a quarter of a second away from pole, 0.038s ahead of title contenders McKenzy Cresswell (Elite Motorsport) and JHR’s Joseph Loake, who was only 0.287s away from pole, but down in eighth, and needing a big fightback with Voisin at the head of the field.

Douglas Motorsport’s Tymek Kucharczyk and Fortec’s Jarrod Waberski completed the top-10, which was covered by 0.436s. Less than a second covered the top-15 drivers.

For the race two grid, Voisin heads the field for that contest too, two tenths ahead of Dunne, with Esterson third. Cresswell, Hedley and Arao complete the top-six.

Rees, Kucharczyk, Loake and Chris Dittmann Racing’s Arthur Rogeon complete the race two grid top-10, which was covered by 0.590s.
