JHR Developments was crowned as GB3 Team’s champions at Donington Park, after a dominant campaign which saw the Derbyshire squad lead the standings almost unchallenged from the very first race at Oulton Park.
Led by Steven Hunter, the team ultimately claimed their first major prize in GB3 by 94 points, with Rodin Carlin and Arden VRD their nearest challengers.
The success completes a rapid rise up the order, having finished eighth in the standings last season after running a sole car for Matthew Rees for much of the campaign.
For this year, the Dronfield outfit expanded to a capacity three car line-up for Rees, British F4 graduate Joseph Loake and GB3 sophomore David Morales, and enjoyed an almost perfect start to the season, with Loake winning three of the first five races. Rees claimed a victory of his own at Silverstone and Loake added another to his tally at Brands Hatch, as he fought for the driver’s championship title. JHR was never overtaken at the top of the team's standings.
Loake ultimately finished third in the driver’s standings, with Rees fifth and Morales 13th. The team scored a total of five wins, 14 podium finishes, six pole positions and five fastest laps in 2023.
“Coming into the year I didn’t expect to be anywhere near the top three, especially by the end of the year. I was hoping to maybe get some podiums, possibly a win, and I would have taken that.” said Loake.
“Going into the final round, in contention for the championship, and coming away with third is a great result. It is my first year in GB3, there’s a lot of learning to do, and the whole point of being here is to keep learning and keep progressing. I am proud of what I managed to achieve this year with JHR Developments.”
Rees added: “It was good to help JHR win the Teams’ Championship because you can see the hard work they all put in day in, day out. My mechanic, Liam, is in the workshop every day making sure the car has been stripped down and ready to go, so it’s a nice achievement to give them something to celebrate.”
