Voisin and Esterson to sample FIA F3 machinery this week

04 October 2023

GB3 Championship leader Callum Voisin and fellow 2023 competitor Max Esterson will be taking part in the official FIA Formula 3 Championship post-season test at Jerez this week, as they evaluate potential next steps up the ladder.

The pair join four other GB3 graduates at this week’s test (5-6 October), with Voisin set to experience FIA F3 machinery for the first time, sticking with the Rodin Carlin squad that has propelled him to the top of the GB3 standings ahead of the Zandvoort round next weekend.

The Jerez test comes ahead of a busy few weeks for the British-Swiss contender, with the final two events of this year’s GB3 Championship in the Netherlands and then at Donington Park coming on consecutive weekends, before moving on to take part in the assessments for the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award at Silverstone shortly afterwards.

Should Voisin win this year’s GB3 Championship, he’ll get another testing opportunity in FIA F3 machinery as part of his prize.

GB3 race-winner Esterson meanwhile has already raced in FIA F3 this year at Silverstone and the Hungaroring, and links up with Jenzer Motorsport in Spain this week.

Other GB3 alumni in testing action at Jerez include 2022 champion Luke Browning with Hitech Pulse-Eight, where he’ll be joined by his teammate from that year Cian Shields. Shields has raced in EuroFormula this season, with this week’s test marking his first opportunity in an FIA F3 car.

Christian Mansell will test with ART Grand Prix, and Tommy Smith will be behind the wheel of a Van Amersfoort Racing car. Both drivers raced in the series this year, with Mansell taking two podiums.
