GB3 race-winner Ollie Bearman to make F1 free practice debut with Haas

05 October 2023

GB3 graduate Ollie Bearman will get his first experience of Formula 1 machinery later this month, after the Moneygram Haas F1 Team confirmed FP1 appearances at the Mexican and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.

Bearman was a GB3 race-winner at Snetterton in 2021, and also earned podiums at Brands Hatch and Silverstone during a partial campaign with Fortec Motorsport, which also netted two pole positions.

Since then, he’s gone on to claim the runner-up spot in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship, and has won four races in this year’s FIA Formula 2 Championship with Prema. He sits sixth in the standings at present.

The Ferrari Driver Academy member’s form has now merited his first free practice appearances with Ferrari-powered Haas.

“I am so happy to be joining MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driving in Mexico and Abu Dhabi,” Bearman said.

“Getting to Formula 1 has been my dream since I was go-karting so to be driving a car for the first time this year is really special.

“I’m grateful to the team, and of course Ferrari, for allowing me this chance. I’m working hard to make sure I’m ready to support the team as best I can on both occasions.”

Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner is looking forward to giving Bearman a run.

“We’re very happy to offer Oliver Bearman these outings in Mexico and Abu Dhabi,” he said.

“He’s had a stellar rookie season in Formula 2, four wins is testament to that, and as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy – we know his background preparation coming into these weekends will be first-rate. We look forward to welcoming Oliver into the team and have him drive the VF-23.”
