Voisin and Esterson impress in FIA F3 testing

09 October 2023

GB3 Championship leader Callum Voisin and fellow race-winner Max Esterson showed strong pace in the official FIA Formula 3 test at Jerez last week.

The two day event marked Voisin’s first taste of the next step up the ladder, and he immediately showed his potential by setting the seventh fastest time for Rodin Carlin on the first day at the former F1 venue.

He improved his time by over six tenths of a second on the second day of running, ending up less than nine tenths of a second away from the fastest lap of the week.

Esterson meanwhile, who competed in four F3 races between GB3 commitments this year, joined Jenzer Motorsport at Jerez, and after posting the 21st quickest time on the first day, ended the second day in style with the fifth quickest effort in the final session of the week.

That was enough to put the American just over nine tenths of a second off the fastest overall time across the two days.

Four former GB3 drivers were also in action at the test, headed by current reigning champion Luke Browning, who was eighth quickest for Hitech Pulse-Eight. Christian Mansell (ART Grand Prix), Cian Shields (Hitech) and Tommy Smith (Van Amersfoort Racing) also completed the test.

Mansell is already a podium finisher in the category, and Smith completed the full season, while Shields gained his first experience of F3 machinery.
