2021 GB3 champion Zak O’Sullivan claimed the runner-up spot in the FIA Formula 3 championship season finale with a podium at Monza.
The British driver entered the final race of the year lying fifth in the championship, and started from sixth on the grid for Sunday’s feature race decider.
Amidst plenty of drama at the Italian circuit, O’Sullivan picked off his rivals including two positions in one corner on lap six.
He was right in the scrap for the podium positions before the safety car was deployed for the second time, and moved up to second upon the restart.
Yet another safety car followed shortly afterwards, and only one racing lap was left to run, with O’Sullivan following race winner Jonny Edgar home.
O’Sullivan’s fifth podium of the season, (four of those being victories), combined with troubles for Paul Aron, Franco Colapinto and Pepe Marti meant the Williams Academy driver claimed the runner-up spot, seven points clear.
The result also ensured that his PREMA Racing squad won the Teams’ Championship at their home event.
