Loake takes pole in curtailed Brands Hatch GP qualifying

09 September 2023

JHR Developments’ Joseph Loake claimed his third pole position of the year in qualifying at Brands Hatch this morning, in a session which ended early due to barrier damage.

Loake had set his time inside the first nine minutes of the session, and held onto it as drivers improved their times, but the session was concluded with four minutes remaining after separate offs for Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Souta Arao and Douglas Motorsport’s Tymek Kucharczyk.

Loake therefore topped the session, over a quarter of a second clear of Rodin Carlin’s championship leader Callum Voisin, with Elite’s McKenzy Cresswell and Arden VRD’s James Hedley getting times in before the red flag to go third and fourth fastest.

The second JHR car of Matthew Rees was fifth quickest, half a tenth ahead of another title challenger in the form of Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Alex Dunne.

Rodin Carlin’s John Bennett enjoyed his best qualifying since the first Silverstone visit, registering the seventh fastest time and less than a tenth ahead of Chris Dittmann Racing’s Zak Taylor.

Bennett’s teammate Costa Toparis and Kucharczyk completed the top-10, which was covered by less than a second.

Voisin meanwhile claimed pole position for race two, based on his personal second quickest lap time, which was just 0.019 slower than his quickest, putting him at the head of the grid for tomorrow morning’s contest ahead of Loake.

Cresswell and Rees are next up on the race two grid, ahead of Hedley and Dunne, with Toparis, Taylor, Kucharczyk, and David Morales (JHR) filling the top-10.
