Sharp saves best until last to end Friday fastest at Silverstone

26 April 2024

Rodin Motorsport’s championship leader Louis Sharp saved his best until the very last moment of testing at Silverstone, as he set a 1m52.882s lap with just over a minute remaining in the final session of the week to end Friday testing fastest.

Sharp’s late time was enough to put him just under a tenth of a second ahead of VRD Racing by Arden’s Nikita Johnson, who isn’t racing this weekend but did his Spa GB3 preparations no harm by being inside the top-two runners all day.

The second Rodin car of Ugo Ugochukwu was third quickest, with the American driver joining testing today having been on Formula Regional duty earlier this week. He was just 0.044s away from Johnson and 0.164s clear of FIA F3 race winner Martinius Stenshorne, who put his Chris Dittmann Racing car fourth.

JHR’s John Bennett looks to be on form again as he ended Friday in fifth place, 0.025s ahead of another FIA F3 winner, Arvid Lindblad, who completed his Silverstone test with Fortec in sixth place, only 0.025s off Bennett’s time.

Hitech’s Will Macintyre was next up and 0.029s away from Lindblad, with teammate Tymek Kucharczyk in eighth and less than a tenth further back.

Elite’s Jarrod Waberski, who topped session one this morning, was ninth this time around, only 0.012s away from Kucharczyk, and five thousandths quicker than the third Hitech of Gerrard Xie, who completed the session two top-10, which was covered by less than six tenths of a second.

On the combined times for the day overall, the top four all set their best laps in the final session, while Waberski shoots up to fifth in the end of day classification based on his session one effort.

Bennett, Lindblad and Macintyre are next up courtesy of their session two times, with VRD Racing by Arden’s James Hedley rising to ninth based on his morning time, with Kucharczyk’s session two lap completing the day’s top-10, again covered by less than six tenths.

A total of 26 cars completed testing today, with Fortec welcoming James Wharton to the action ahead of his GB3 debut, while 2022 GB4 champion Nikolas Taylor again experienced a Hillspeed machine. Douglas Motorsport was also in action with a single car.

The 22-car GB3 field entered for this weekend’s races will return to action tomorrow with qualifying at 10.40.
