2021 GB3 champion Zak O'Sullivan wins FIA F2 sprint race at Spa

27 July 2024

2021 GB3 champion Zak O'Sullivan claimed his second FIA F2 win of the season in tricky conditions at Spa-Francorchamps.

The British driver, who was victorious at Monaco earlier in the season, started from reverse grid pole position, and led the field away in damp conditions, in a significantly delayed contest.

Showing his pace, O'Sullivan had built a lead of over two seconds when the race was initially neutralised under virtual safety car conditions for a stranded car.

That VSC period was turned into full safety car conditions when the car needed retrieving, nullifying his advantage.

However as the field circulated at slow speed, the rain intensified and the race was red flagged shortly afterwards. The reduced distance meant fewer points were scored by the field, but O'Sullivan still led every lap to add another victory at a legendary circuit, in front of the F1 paddock.

“P1 in the Sprint Race today. Honestly would’ve liked to have a bit longer on track but unfortunately conditions got worse and worse. Still, nonetheless, a good result and looking forward to tomorrow starting inside the top 10,” O'Sullivan said afterwards.

O'Sullivan will start from 10th on the grid in tomorrow's feature race.
