Cresswell withstands first lap challenge for first GB3 victory of 2024 in Silverstone race two

28 July 2024

Elite Motorsport's McKenzy Cresswell fended off a substantial first lap challenge from Louis Sharp and John Bennett to claim his first GB3 Championship win of the season in race two at Silvestone this morning (Sunday).

The British driver started from pole, but was again passed by Sharp at Copse on the first lap. In a near mirror image of yesterday's action, the pair went wheel to wheel through Maggotts and Becketts, allowing Bennett to challenge down the Hangar Straight.

This time though, Cresswell was able to regain the lead at Stowe, and he gradually pulled away to take a first win of 2024, at the same circuit he claimed his maiden GB3 win at last year.

Sharp settled for second, two seconds behind to extend his championship lead, while JHR's Bennett earned a second podium of the weekend also with third, after holding off pressure from Cresswell's teammate Jarrod Waberski.

Hitech Pulse-Eight's Tymek Kucharczyk claimed fifth place to recover from yesterday's DNF, five seconds clear of Rodin's Ugo Ugochukwu in sixth.

VRD Racing by Arden's Shawn Rashid replicated his best race result of the season with seventh, having started eighth, finishing ahead of teammate Noah Ping who climbed up from 14th.

Hitech's Gerrard Xie and Elite Motorsport's Hugo Schwarze completed the top-10. The final race of the weekend at Silverstone, the top-12 reverse encounter, is due to start at 15.15, with JHR's Patrick Heuzenroeder set to start from pole.
