The GB3 Championship could be wrapped up in race two on Sunday, should Louis Sharp finish inside the top-nine, and other results fall his way.
Sharp needs to have at least a 31-point lead over John Bennett and a 29-point lead over Tymek Kucharczyk. This is because Bennett and Kucharczyk can score a maximum of 30 and 28 points respectively in the final race, based on the expected grid line-up for race three, a contest which awards extra points for places gained compared to starting positions.
For the championship fight to remain open heading into the final race, the following permutations therefore need to take place:
If Louis Sharp wins race two, John Bennett must finish third or higher to stay in the battle, and Tymek Kucharczyk would be out of mathematical contention.
If Sharp finishes second, Bennett must finish fifth or higher, and Kucharczyk must win the race to remain in the battle.
If Sharp finishes third, Bennett must finish eighth or higher, and Kucharczyk must be second or higher
If Sharp finishes fourth, Bennett must be 11th or higher, and Kucharczyk third or higher
If Sharp finishes fifth, Bennett must be 13th or higher and Kucharczyk fourth or higher
If Sharp finishes sixth, Bennett must be 15th or higher and Kucharczyk fifth or higher
If Sharp finishes seventh, Bennett must be 17th or higher and Kucharczyk sixth or higher
If Sharp finishes eighth, Bennett must be 19th or higher and Kucharczyk ninth or higher
If Sharp finishes ninth, Bennett must be 20th or higher and Kucharczyk 11th or higher
If Sharp finishes 10th or lower, the championship fight goes down to the final race!
The above permutations are based on the championship being put beyond doubt, without any potential countback situation.
The current countback situation heading into race two is as follows:
Sharp wins – 4
Sharp seconds – 3
Sharp thirds – 2
Bennett wins – 3
Bennett seconds – 4
Bennett thirds – 3
Kucharczyk wins – 4
Kucharczyk seconds – 3
Kucharczyk thirds - 3
