Joint-record GB3 grid set for new era season opener

Joint-record GB3 grid set for new era season opener

25 April 2025

There’s a new look to the GB3 Championship in 2025, with a stunning new car, the Tatuus MSV GB3-025 adding further verve to what was already one of the world’s leading junior single-seater categories.

A record-equalling grid of 25 drivers representing 13 nations will contest this weekend’s season opener on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, so expect drama and frantic action as the field battle for early season superiority.

First up, this year’s grid will have to get to grips with the DRS-equipped Tatuus MSV GB3-025 machine that’s turned plenty of heads pre-season, with extra aero, more power and more performance. One of the most aesthetically dramatic single-seaters out there is also a rapid beast; Hillspeed’s Freddie Slater topped pre-season testing here in March with a lap time a full second quicker than the official GB3 lap record.

Slater may only be doing selected rounds this year, but he’s definitely one to watch when he’s in the hotseat. A likely pre-season favourite and key rival is Hitech TGR’s dominant British F4 champion and Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award winner Deagen Fairclough. The Brit will drive an F1 car for the team based at Silverstone later this year, so the double GB3 visit to Silverstone in 2025 will be ideal preparation.

There’s plenty more F1 involvement; Argenti by Prema’s Yuanpu Cui is a Mercedes Junior, Fairclough’s Hitech teammate Keanu Al Azhari carries the distinctive pink colours of the Alpine Academy, and VRD Racing’s Enzo Tarnvanichkul is part of the famed Red Bull Junior Team.

Maintaining the F1 theme, reigning F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling makes the step up to GB3 as her prize for winning the Grand Prix-support series, joining the same Rodin Motorsport squad she’s raced with for the past two seasons. Fellow F1 Academy graduate Bianca Bustamante also makes the move to GB3 with Elite Motorsport.

New teams have also joined the series, Argenti Motorsport has teamed with Italian powerhouse Prema for their GB3 debut, with F4 graduates Reza Seewooruthun and Lucas Fluxa joining Cui at Michael Meadows’ squad, which runs under the Argenti with Prema banner.

UAE-based Xcel Motorsport is also a new GB3 contender, and brings podium finisher Pat Heuzenroeder back to the series alongside F4 stars Jack Sherwood and Dion Gowda, with Heuzenroeder in particular looking to have made massive progress in the winter break.

Reigning champions Rodin Motorsport have added British F4 runner-up Alex Ninovic and Italian F4 race winner Gianmarco Pradel to their line-up alongside Pulling, as they look to back up Louis Sharp’s title success last year.

Will Macintyre, the highest placed driver from last year makes the switch to Elite Motorsport for 2025 alongside Bustamante and fellow returnee Flynn Jackes, while Hitech’s squad is completed by GB3 race winner Nikita Johnson.

Fortec’s roster is filled by GT graduate Stefan Bostandjiev and F4 contender Mika Abrahams, while VRD’s two-car entry for round one is completed by German returnee Hugo Schwarze.

Japanese pair Kanato Le and Hiyu Yamakoshi complete an all-star line-up with Slater at Hillspeed, while perhaps the most experienced single-seater combination is with JHR Developments’ duo Kai Daryanani and Noah Lisle, who have almost 300 single-seater races behind them in series ranging from Eurocup 3 to UAE F4!

Finally Daryanani’s Indian countryman Divy Nandan makes the step up to GB3 with Chris Dittmann Racing.

There’s also a new format, with two fifteen minute qualifying sessions on Saturday forming the grids for races one and two, with all three contests now running to 25 minutes in duration, including the top-12 reverse on Sunday afternoon, where points are also awarded for positions gained.

The Silverstone season starter is the precursor to a mini-European tour, with events at Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps and the Hungaroring to follow, before the UK leg begins with a return to the Silverstone F1 layout and trips to the Brands Hatch and Donington Park Grand Prix tracks. This year's season finale is a debut trip to Monza in October.
