Rodrigo Gonzalez: GB3 “was an important step for my development”

18 December 2025

Mexican driver Rodrigo Gonzalez made his European racing debut in the GB3 Championship during the final half of the 2025 season, driving for Chris Dittmann Racing initially, before switching over to join his brother Patricio at VRD Racing for the final three rounds.

Gonzalez registered a best race result of 10th during the season finale at Monza, and a best qualifying performance of 12th at Donington Park.

“Coming to race in GB3 was definitely a challenge” he summarises. “Before arriving at Silverstone, I had never driven a car with downforce or this level of power, and I hadn’t tested at any European circuits.

“We knew it would be a difficult transition, especially adapting to new tracks and a different racing environment, but it was an important step for my development.”

Having been a front-runner in championships in the USA, it took a little while for Rodrigo to adapt to his new environment, especially against drivers that had completed the whole season. It was telling therefore, that he feels his best performance came at a venue where his rivals had limited testing opportunities.

“I didn’t really get the opportunity to perform at the level I expected from myself this year,” he admits. “But one positive was my pace at Brands Hatch, considering how little track time I had on the full GP circuit. That weekend showed progress in the right areas.”

The event at Brands Hatch marked the first time the brothers had operated as teammates in GB3, and the duo operated closely on track and off it too.

“For both my brother and me, the targets were simple: get comfortable with the car and learn the circuits. We changed the way we approached each weekend — from preparation to workouts to how we handled our debriefs. The focus was on building a solid base for the future.

“My brother and I have raced together since karting, and now we both live in Madrid working toward becoming professional racing drivers. We train together, prepare together, and push each other. We’re competitive, but in a way that helps both of us improve. We work well as teammates on and off the track.”

The winter break is now in full swing, but Rodrigo knows what to focus on should he make a series return next season.

“If I returned to GB3 in 2026, I’d be much better prepared” he states. “Knowing the circuits already would give me more confidence and allow me to focus fully on performance instead of learning. The target would be to start the season at a competitive level and keep building from there.”
