Patricio Gonzalez will continue to race in GB3 next year, staying with the VRD Racing squad having contested the second half of the 2025 season with the Anglo-American team.
The 17-year-old Mexican driver was able to quickly get up to speed in GB3, earning a best qualifying result of seventh at Donington Park, and a best race result of sixth at the same venue.
Further demonstrating his potential he earned another top-10 at Donington Park, with a five place gain compared to his starting position, and ninth at Monza during the season finale weekend.
Before heading to Europe for the first time halfway through the year, Patricio had raced exclusively in the Americas.
Like his brother Rodrigo, who also raced in GB3 this year, he only began karting in 2022, and made the step up to single-seaters in 2024, with a stint in the USF Juniors category, with a best result of sixth at Portland and five top-10 finishes in total.
He also enjoyed a competitive run in the YACademy Winter Series, with four top-six finishes.
He began the 2025 season in the USA again, finishing eighth overall in his second YACademy Winter Series, and completed five races in USF2000, including events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Road America.
With 12 GB3 races to his name, Patricio has gained significant mileage in the weeks following the season finale at Monza, visiting key UK circuits as well as three of the European venues on next year’s calendar.
Patricio Gonzalez: “I’m extremely excited to continue with VRD Racing for a full season in the GB3 Championship in 2026. Last year gave me my first real experience of racing in Europe, and I learned a huge amount both on and off the track. Now I feel much more prepared and motivated to take the next step and keep developing as a driver.
“Staying with the same team is very important for me, as we already have a strong working relationship and a clear direction. I’m grateful to everyone at VRD for their trust and support, and I’m ready to work hard, push myself every weekend, and keep improving throughout the season.”
VRD Racing Team Principal Dan Mitchell: “We were really impressed with Patricio’s performances in GB3 this year. Considering the little amount of racing he’s done so far in his career, he acquitted himself well to the step up, and established himself in the midfield towards the end of the year. With a proper build-up to next year, we’re really confident he will continue to make strides forward, and we’re excited to see how he performs next year.”
