Lando Norris could become the first GB3 alumni to win the F1 World Championship this weekend, as he heads to the season finale in Abu Dhabi as the championship leader.
The Brit's task is a relatively simple one, should he finish the race on the podium, he will claim his first F1 title, and having done so 17 already this season, he's the favourite to wrap things up this weekend.
In F1's first three-way title decider since 2010, Norris will have to fend off a late season resurgence from Red Bull's reigning four-time champion Max Verstappen and his own teammate Oscar Piastri.
“The final race, Abu Dhabi. I’m excited. Last year, we had the Constructors’ Championship to go for, and this year, we go in as Champions, with another important Championship to win. It’s amazing to see how much we’ve achieved" Norris said.
“It’s been an incredible season. We have an incredible car. I’m proud of everyone in the team. Thank you to all of our fans. We’ve got one more race, and we’ll give it everything.”
Meanwhile, a quarter of the line-up in the season finale's first free practice session at Abu Dhabi were GB3 graduates. Norris was fastest and Mercedes' George Russell sixth, two spots ahead of Haas' Ollie Bearman.
2022 GB3 champion Luke Browning had another FP1 outing for Williams and was just a second away from Norris' pace, while Browning's teammate in the same year, Cian Shields, made an F1 weekend debut for Aston Martin, and was within two seconds of Norris.
