GB3 race 2: Ninovic extends championship lead with victory at the Hungaroring

06 July 2025

Rodin Motorsport's championship leader Alex Ninovic claimed his third victory of the season, as he controlled the second GB3 race at the Hungaroring on Sunday morning.

Starting from pole, he rebuffed a turn one challenge from Hitech TGR's Keanu Al Azhari, and then led from there, while also withstanding a safety car restart following a lap one collision between Jack Sherwood and Kai Daryanani.

Ninovic secured victory with a 1.7 second margin to Al Azhari, who kept him within DRS range for the first half of the race, only for Ninovic to pull away in the closing stages.

JHR Developments' Noah Nisle secured the final spot on the podium, having gained a position at the start from Rodin's race one winner Gianmarco Pradel who had to settle for fourth. Lisle was seven seconds further back from Al Azhari, and over a second clear of countryman Pradel.

Elite Motorsport's Will Macintyre was the entertainer once more, getting firmly involved in a battle with Hitech's Deagen Fairclough. Macintyre had moved into fifth at Fairclough's expense after the safety car restart on lap three, only to be demoted moments later and then fell behind VRD's Hugo Schwarze in the process.

Macintyre picked off Schwarze for sixth at turn two on lap five, and then closed up again on Fairclough, moving past on the final lap. Fairclough therefore had to settle for sixth ahead of Schwarze, who made amends for his race one DNF.

Xcel Motorsport's Patrick Heuzenroeder was eighth, ahead of Rodin's Abbi Pulling who dropped to 10th on lap one having started seventh, but battled back by passing Argenti with Prema's Reza Seewooruthun on lap eight, who completed the top-10.

From pole, Ninovic had made a good initial launch off the line, but Al Azhari was able to draw alongside heading to turn one, and attempted a move around the outside. Further back there was drama as Sherwood from 13th on the grid locked up and clattered into JHR's Daryanani while the Argenti with Prema car of Yuanpui Cui and the Elite pair of Flynn Jackes and Bianca Bustamante were forced to take to the turn one run off area to take avoiding action.

The race was immediately neutralised under the safety car, with the front two of Ninovic and Al Azhari having already broken clear of Lisle in third.

The two stranded cars were quickly cleared, allowing the race to resume on lap three, and the top two immediately pulled clear again. Separated by less than a second throughout the first half of the race, Ninovic finally broke clear of DRS range on lap nine and gained small fractions thereafter to extend his lead to approaching two seconds late on.

Ninovic's triumph adds to wins achieved at Zandvoort and Spa-Francorchamps, and extends his championship lead further to 32 points with one more race to come this weekend at 17.40 local time.
