Spa preview: GB3's F1 hopefuls blast to Belgium

26 May 2025

The GB3 Championship heads to Belgium's majestic Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, with a 22-strong grid looking to impress at the home of the Belgian Grand Prix.

After his best weekend in GB3 last time out at Zandvoort, it's Xcel Motorsport's Patrick Heuzenroeder who leads the pack heading to Spa. The Australian took a win and a podium in the Netherlands, and holds a 14-point margin to Rodin's Alex Ninovic, who also claimed his first victory two weeks ago.

The top-three is completed by a third Aussie, JHR's Noah Lisle, who has shown superb consistency in his first GB3 campaign.

Hitech TGR's Deagen Fairclough is the only British driver inside the top-five, and he enjoyed a strong weekend at Zandvoort with two podiums, catapulting him up to fourth in the standings.

Yet another Aussie, Rodin's Gianmarco Pradel is next up, with two podiums to his name so far, and he sits five points clear of sophomore contender Nikita Johnson, the American being the second Hitech representative inside the top-six.

Elite's Will Macintyre, a multiple GB3 race winner is seventh in the standings, ahead of Hillspeed's Freddie Slater, who makes a GB3 return following his supreme showing at Silverstone. Ominously, the Brit is already a race winner at Spa this year courtesy of his Formula Regional exploits.

Reza Seewooruthun enjoyed his strongest GB3 weekend so far at Zandvoort, and is the lead Argenti with Prema contender in the standings ahead of the third Hitech TGR of Keanu Al Azhari, who was a podium finisher in the Netherlands.

The second Argenti with Prema car of Lucas Fluxa is just outside the top-11 at present, five points ahead of Rodin's Abbi Pulling, with VRD's Zandvoort winner Hugo Schwarze only a point further back.

Next up is Mercedes junior Yuanpu Cui in the third Argenti with Prema car, with Kai Daryanani 15th for JHR Developments, though the Indian has shown the pace to elevate himself higher in the standings.

The second Xcel car of Jack Sherwood showed plenty of promise at Zandvoort, but didn't have the luck to go with it, while Japanese pairing Hiyu Yamakoshi and Kanato Le are back in GB3 again with Hillspeed.

Elite's Flynn Jackes and Fortec's Stefan Bostandjiev are equal on points just behind. Jackes' teammate Bianca Bustamante claimed her best GB3 result at Zandvoort, while Xcel's Dion Gowda completes the line-up, another drivers making a return.

The weekend action starts with two half hour test sessions on Thursday at 13.00 and 17.30 CEST (UK plus one hour), with three further half hour sessions on Friday at 9.00, 11.50 and 14.00. In a change from the usual weekend format, the two part qualifying session will take place on Friday afternoon at 17.10.

The first race of the weekend will start at 10.48 local time on Saturday, with race two scheduled for 17.25. The top-12 reverse grid finale brings the action to a close at 10.30 local time on Sunday morning.

All the racing will again be shown live via the GB3 live timing page.
