American rising single-seater star Max Taylor will return to the GB3 Championship at Donington Park this weekend, with the RACE LAB team, which moves into single-seaters for the first time.
17-year-old Taylor has one GB3 event under his belt already, having raced in the series a year ago, also at Donington Park, where he secured three strong finishes on his maiden European race weekend.
The 2024 USF Juniors champion has since raced in selected Indy NXT events this year with a best result of fourth at Laguna Seca, and also contested the full USF Pro 2000 campaign, finishing sixth overall with a win at Road America and three further podiums.
RACE LAB enters GB3 with a strong pedigree in sports car racing, including a two-year stint in the British GT Championship from 2023, and were Pro-Am champions in their debut season.
The team, headed up owner Lee Frost, and acclaimed international GT racer Euan Hankey, has also competed in European GT4 events and the McLaren Trophy series in recent years.
This weekend’s Donington Park event, running with a car loaned by VRD Racing, will be an exploratory one for both team and driver, as they evaluate a potential Monza entry at the season finale.
Max Taylor: “I’m really looking forward to having another go in GB3 this weekend. While I’ve driven at Donington Park on several occasions now, the car has obviously changed since I last raced there, so there’s a lot for us all to learn in testing! But I’m confident we can put it all together and exceed the results from a year ago. It’s great to be back at a European event and to also be helping a new team make their mark.”
Euan Hankey: “As a team we’re very excited to be racing in single-seaters for the first time. My own racing career began in UK single-seaters, so it will be nice to be in that sort of paddock again and amongst some familiar faces I’m sure. While it’s our first time in GB3, we have plenty of collective experience to fall back on, and I’m confident we can give a good showing of ourselves as we evaluate future options for the team.”
