What they said: Monza qualifying

What they said: Monza qualifying

18 October 2025

Alex Ninovic, Noah Lisle and Patrick Heuzenroeder set the fastest times in qualifying at Monza this morning. Here's how each reacted at the end of the session

Double pole, Alex Ninovic, Rodin Motorsport:
"It's pretty amazing, to get 10 pole positions this season has been extraordinary. I couldn't have thought that we were going to get that at the start of this season, no chance. But it just shows that the pace of myself and the car has been unstoppable really from the get go. It just shows that I'm really comfortable with the car at any track.

"In the two qualifying sessions the slipstream was always going to be the make or break really for being at the front. So the first one was a bit challenging. After we left the pit lane I found myself at the front straight away so I didn't have anything to go off. And we did lack a few tenths here and there because of that, but then the red flag came out and there was four minutes to go. We managed to slide back out and get in a bit of a train there and managed on my first push lap after the red flag to go to pole, which was nice. So we bagged that one and in the second one, we had a different tactic where we drove through the pit lane after we got our tyres up to temperature, and that allowed a lot of the cars to go past so we could hopefully train onto the back of them. We managed to get a few tows here and there but nothing serious, so we probably misjudged that slightly but it still gave us just enough to clinch the pole.

"We will see what happens [in the race]. I feel really comfortable with the car in the race conditions, so I'm hoping to get away at the start and hopefully open up a gap. But you never know what can happen with safety cars and all that, but I think we have the pace to possibly pull clear."

Second, Noah Lisle, JHR Developments:
"Not so good is probably an understatement [in Q1]. It was by far the worst quali of the season and didn't really do a time. I think probably the wrong decision to look for a tow in that session, and I'm taking full responsibility for that. The team gave an amazing car and unfortunately I didn't deliver them the result that they deserved, which is frustrating. But I'm happy to equal the best qualifying of the season in the second session.

"In the second session I was focusing more on just doing a lap rather than looking for the perfect track positioning, which given the practice sessions would probably have been the correct thing to do. Obviously I was just trying to go for pole in the last round of the season and looking for something extra. But I'm happy to at least bring home a solid quali in the second one.

"We'll certainly be going for the win in race two, there's lots of racing to be had around here and there's not much to lose at the last round of the season. I'm looking forward to race one as well, we have a super good car and one that we can race quite far forward fairly easily."

Third, Patrick Heuzenroeder, Xcel Motorsport:
"Definitely a result I'm happy with, a real shame not to get pole, four thousandths around five and a half kilometres is not much is it? So I just couldn't get it quite hooked up on that last push lap because I was a bit close to the car in front. But obviously it's Monza and we can race from there, so it's very positive.

"Hopefully I can pip him off the line, and it's going to be a whole train the whole race, so eyes forward and I'll always be trying to overtake or look at opportunities, and maximise the slipstream.

"The whole championship has been leading to this point but it doesn't mean you behave differently to the other rounds. You're always trying to do the best you can to maximise the points because why would you not really? It's definitely a factor coming into this weekend to maintain P2 [in the standings] but I think a strong qualifying has set us up well."
