Norris leads F1 World Championship after barnstorming Mexico victory, while Bearman earns career best result

Lando Norris has taken over the lead of the 2025 F1 World Championship, after a stunning performance at the Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez last weekend.

Norris entered the event with a 14-point deficit to teammate Oscar Piastri in the standings, but powered to pole position by well over two tenths of a second in qualifying, his fifth of the season.

The multiple BRDC British F3 race-winner then stormed to a dominant win in the race on Sunday. He held off the challenge of the two Ferraris and Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the first corner, and then steadily built a lead, which he extended to over 30 seconds by the end of the race.

His sixth triumph of the year, and his 10th in F1, means he now holds a one point lead in the standings with four races and two Sprints still to come.

“What a race! It’s awesome to win here!" Norris said. "Good start, good first lap, and I could go from there. Eyes forward, focused on what I was doing. The launch was really the key thing. Thanks to the team for giving me a great race car – and a big thanks to all the fans. Lifting the trophy here in the stadium was really special. The focus doesn’t change now, I’ll just keep pushing to deliver results like this and keep doing my best every weekend."

The race also saw a career best finish for Ollie Bearman, a race winner in the 2021 GB3 Championship.

Driving for Haas, Bearman started ninth on the grid, ran sixth early on and then took advantage of squabbles between his rivals to climb to fourth, which became third when Lewis Hamilton served a time penalty.

He held third for several laps, including after the first pit stop phase, and only relinquished the position when stopping for a second time, falling behind a one-stopping Max Verstappen. He then had to hold off title-challenging Oscar Piastri in the latter stages, but held firm to equal Haas' best ever F1 result.

“It was a crazy race out there" he grinned afterwards. "I’m so happy to get so many good points for the team, we did a really fantastic job getting the car in the right window, it felt great underneath me – it was the perfect job. It’s a feelgood moment also, to go side by side with Max Verstappen is a very cool feeling, he’s someone I’ve grown up watching in Formula 1. I’m so proud of this team – we finished P4 on merit – we may have got some luck to get there, but it was our speed that kept us there.”
