Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Ninovic stretched his GB3 Championship lead even further with his seventh win of the season in race one at Donington Park this afternoon.
From pole, Ninovic had a superb opening two laps to pull out a 2.7 second lead to the fast-starting Reza Seewooruthun, only to see that wiped out by an early safety car.
Ninovic then made an excellent restart at the end of lap five to re-establish a gap, and pulled away from the field again, holding a five second lead when the safety car was deployed for a second time after Keanu Al Azhari skated off the track exiting the Old Hairpin with five minutes remaining.
With little time remaining to clear Al Azhari's damaged car, the safety car pitted at the end of what would prove to be the final lap, with Ninovic finishing ahead of Argenti with Prema’s Seewooruthun, while after an enthralling battle following the first safety car period with Deagen Fairclough, JHR’s Noah Lisle claimed third.
Patrick Heuzenroeder claimed fourth for Xcel Motorsport, but has lost more ground to Ninovic in the title race, while Hillspeed's Lucas Fluxa went from 12th on the grid to fifth on his debut for the team.
After briefly running in the podium spots, Fairclough fell to sixth after a mid-race wobble at the Old Hairpin, while Rodin's Abbi Pulling delivered a storming drive from 17th on the grid to seventh.
Her teammate Gianmarco Pradel mirrored her progress to go from 20th to eighth with VRD's Enzo Tarnvanichkul and RACE LAB's Max Taylor completing the top-10.
The result means Ninovic now has an 85-point lead in the championship standings. Should he stretch that to 102 or more by the end of the weekend, he will be crowned champion with a full event still to run.
