2022 GB3 champion Luke Browning thrust himself into the Formula 2 title fight with a commanding victory in Sunday's Feature Race at Monza.
The British driver also took pole position for the encounter, and controlled the early stages of the race. However, safety car appearances meant the race wasn't straightforward, and Browning had to fight back into the lead mid-race, as well as operating a defensive stance after further safety car appearances late in the race.
But he held firm to claim his first ever F2 win after taking seven podium finishes earlier in the year, and is now just 21 points off the championship lead with six races remaining this year.
“This one feels big – and almost like redemption after last year," said Browning. "We came here in F3, six points off the lead, and lost it after contact in the final race. To come back, put it on pole and win it the following year feels amazing. These kind of high-pressure situations are for me.
“Hitech did a fantastic job today. I love this place – the fans, the atmosphere – it really is special. Now to continue the good form and stay focused for the remaining rounds.”
