Hitech's Jin Nakamura stole the final GB3 race victory of the season opener at Silverstone, after a sensational final lap at Silverstone.
The Japanese driver passed long-time leader Flynn Jackes at the penultimate corner, with Jackes' Elite teammate Kyuho Lee following through to take second.
Jackes had started from pole position on the top-12 reverse grid from the combined qualifying order, and in his third season at this level, used all his experience to control the early part of the race.
But when the safety car was deployed with 13 minutes remaining, his lead of over a second, which Nakamura had already trimmed, was wiped out.
Jackes defended well upon the restart, and withstood almost five minutes of pressure until he went ultra defensive at Vale on the final lap. That allowed Nakamura to close even further and the pair went wheel to wheel through the Village and Loop complex. Nakamura got back into the tow down the Wellington straight, with Lee also joining in as the leaders delayed themselves.
Entering the braking zone at Brooklands, the trio went three wide, with Jackes in the middle, Nakamura on the outside and Lee fancying a lunge on the inside. Somehow contact was avoided, with the outside line being the most favourable, with the Japanese driver taking the lead and the victory, while Lee snatched second place from Jackes.
The top-three were covered by less than half a second at the chequered flag, with Lucas Fluxa fourth for Xcel Motorsport and only a tenth of a second away from a spot on the podium.
After his double victory, championship leader Nikita Bedrin powered his VRD Racing car to fifth from 12th on the grid, while teammates Rodrigo and Patricio Gonzalez followed him home in sixth and seventh.
Bedrin's closest championship challenger Maxim Rehm gained two spots on his way to eighth ahead of Xcel's Rowan Campbell-Pilling and Rodin's Abbi Pulling, who banked her first points of the weekend by completing the top-10
At the top of the standings, Bedrin holds a 19-point lead to Rehm, with Nakamura third after his race three triumph.
