VRD Racing's Nikita Bedrin is the early leader of the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup, after storming to both pole positions on offer at Silverstone last weekend.
The FIA F3 race-winner entered the campaign as one of the pre-season title favourites, and lived up to that billing with an excellent performance on his GB3 debut.
He claimed race one pole in the first qualifying session on Saturday morning, posting a time of 1m50.123, at that point, the fastest ever GB3 qualifying lap at the home of the British Grand Prix.
Armed with a new set of tyres and a lighter fuel load for the second session, he lowered the benchmark even further, with an awesome 1m49.402s, over 2.2 seconds better than the pre-event qualifying record, set last year by Freddie Slater.
Despite slow starts to the opening two races, Bedrin converted both poles into victories, and the early championship lead.
The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup has been part of the GB3 Championship and its predecessor series BRDC F4 and BRDC British F3 since the inaugural season in 2013.
Each pole position is worth £300 in prize money, and the driver with the most pole positions at the end of the season will claim the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup and a £2,000 prize. The team of the driver with the most poles will also earn £2,000.
Prizes at each round are handed out by John Cavill, son of John, who has been a huge supporter of young drivers in MSV's series since 2013.
