Wilson pleased with breakthrough GB3 results after “really positive” Silverstone weekend

19 August 2026

Arden Motorsport's Leon Wilson heads to Donington Park in September off the back of his two most promising weekends so far in the GB3 Championship.

The Yorkshireman, who was a double race winner in GB4 last year, enjoyed a decent start to life in GB3 with a two top-10 finishes during the Silverstone opening weekend in April, before comparative struggles on his first visits to Spa-Francorchamps and the Hungaroring.

But a strong run to the podium from ninth on the grid during the Red Bull Ring finale last month was the catalyst for another strong event at Silverstone most recently, where he secured his second top-10 qualifying performance of the year, and a trio of top-eight race results, producing his highest points haul in GB3 across a single event.

"It was a really positive weekend for us, races one and two were especially positive, making up five positions in the first race after starting P12" Wilson summarised.

"Qualifying wasn't the best for us in Q1, but in the second session we got into the top-10, and that's where we should be, really."

He went on to finish seventh and eighth in the first two races, his best 'main' race results of the season, and ran as part of the lead pack in race three. At one point, he looked set for a second podium in as many race weekends, only to be shuffled back as the racing intensified.

"It was disappointing, we had to avoid a collision, and you can’t really do anything if you’re avoiding a collision. It was either getting crashed into or finishing sixth, so we did the right thing, but it’s just the luck wasn’t on our side."

Wilson admits he's pleased with his recent progress, and hopes to continue that upward trend at Donington Park, a venue he knows well from his two GB4 campaigns, and a circuit on which he was victorious at less than 12 months ago.

"It would be nice for progress to have been a bit quicker, if we’d done this at the start of the year we could be fighting a lot higher in the championship. But it’s our first season in GB3 so we just need to keep going forward.

"I’m looking forward to Donington, we’ve got a more positive set up and everything is more positive in the team. We’ve got a good weekend to come off [from Silverstone] so it’s just about putting it forward and keeping going."
