Rodin Motorsport’s Martin Molnar is the first Hungarian driver to race in GB3, and the Budapest resident is hoping that home advantage will give him the best chance of winning so far this season.
The 17-year-old has shown plenty of pace across the first two events of the year, having qualified on the front row for the first race at Silverstone, and leading a significant part of the season opener. He also scored two podiums last time out at Spa, putting him fourth in the early standings, despite a retirement in the second race at Silverstone.
But even with home advantage this weekend at the Hungaroring, Thursday’s test sessions will be his first proper on track experience of the Grand Prix venue.
“It’s my first time racing in Hungary, so I don’t actually know the track that well!” he joked. “But it’s going to be a really special one for me because it’s going to be my first home race.
“I live quite close to the track, around half an hour away, so it’s going to be special.”
With this weekend’s event being held just three weeks before the Hungarian Grand Prix, Molnar is hoping the fans turn out in force to cheer him on.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of Hungarian fans out so it’s going to be all new things for me but I’m super excited.
“I’ve been preparing for this since Spa, I have done a few sim days so I’m feeling ready and really excited for the round, and hopefully it’s going to go well. We'll find out soon, but I cannot wait to start the weekend!”
