Bedrin battles to GB3 victory in Red Bull Ring race one thriller

11 July 2026

VRD Racing's championship leader Nikita Bedrin stormed past long time race leader Maxim Rehm to claim his fifth victory of the year in the first GB3 race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Bedrin started third on the grid, but moved up to second on the first lap, as Rodin's front row starters Martin Molnar and Maxim Rehm went wheel to wheel through the opening corners.

Rehm was able to get alongside pole-sitter Molnar on the run to turn one, and held the lead with the inside line at the tight turn three right hander, with Bedrin capitalising to demote Molnar to third at turn four.

Racing was nullified on the second lap after a turn three collision between Peter Bouzinelos and Lewis Gilbert left the pair stranded in the gravel.

Action resumed at the end of lap four, with Rehm and Bedrin immediately engaging in battle, the pair duelling on the brakes at turn three with Rehm just holding onto the lead.

The pair were covered by barely more than half a second for the next few laps, with Bedrin constantly posing a threat in the German's wheeltracks.

With 10 minutes to go, the safety car was deployed again with Rodrigo Gonzalez tipped into a spin exiting turn three.

Rehm and Bedrin made a good restart with five minutes remaining, but just as Rehm was handed a five second time penalty for track limits, Bedrin finally made his move and took the lead with a brave pass around the outside of turn six with a minute remaining.

Bedrin then pulled a small gap on the final lap to claim his fifth win of the campaign, ahead of Rehm who dropped to sixth one the penalty was applied.

Xcel's Lucas Fluxa benefited to take take second after taking command of a gripping battle for the podium positions, with the Spanish driver going four wide on the run to turn three after the second restart, with Hitech's Deagen Fairclough, Fluxa's teammate Rowan Campbell-Pilling and Molnar all involved.

In need of a big result, Fairclough moved from eighth on the grid to his second podium of the year. The Brit had qualified fifth but served a three place grid penalty from the final race at the Hungaroroing. But in typically feisty fashion, he gained two spots on the opening lap, and then was in the thick of the action in the big fight for third after the restarts, ultimately finishing fourth on the road but earning a podium at Rehm's expense.

Molnar bounced around the top-three positions too but had to settle for fourth ahead of VRD's Patricio Gonzalez, who moved up from seventh on the grid.

Elite's Kyuho Lee was seventh behind Rehm, but was delayed in the incident that caused the second safety car, finishing ahead of Rodin's Abbi Pulling.

Arden's Leon Wilson climbed from 14th to ninth ahead of Xcel's Ricardo Baptista, who took advantage of the various incidents to move from 17th to complete the top-10.

The second race of the weekend is due to commence at 09.55 local time on Sunday, with Bedrin on pole.
