Speedy Gonzalez! Patricio Gonzalez seals maiden GB3 win in Red Bull Ring finale

12 July 2026

Patricio Gonzalez claimed his first GB3 victory in the third and final race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

The Mexican driver took the lead on the first lap, and led from there despite two safety car restarts. He headed home teammate Nikita Bedrin who went from 12th to second, while Arden's Leon Wilson secured a first podium in third.

Gonzalez's victory completes a clean sweep of race wins for the VRD Racing team this weekend, and it could have been sweeter still, as Patricio's pole sitting brother Rodrigo held second for the majority of the race, only to come to grief when battling Kyuho Lee with just a couple of laps to go, dropping him down to 13th at the flag.

There was drama before the start as Deagen Fairclough failed to get away from the formation lap grid, necessitating an extra green flag lap and reducing the race to 22 minutes in duration.

When the race did get underway, Patricio Gonzalez made the better start from the front row to snatch the lead from his pole sitting brother, while Abbi Pulling from third made an even better getaway to challenge for the lead.

But through turn one she was delayed, and then at turn three there was chaos as Rodin's Maxim Rehm and Xcel's Lucas Fluxa collided, spinning Rehm across the pack and taking Campbell-Pilling and Pulling with him into the barriers, with all three retiring, and Fluxa delayed to the pits.

The safety car was called and racing resumed on lap five with 12 minutes remaining. Patricio Gonzalez made a good restart to build a lead of half a second to his brother, while Bedrin, already up seven places from his starting position, moved past Leon Wilson for fourth.

The Gonzalez brothers were separated by just a few tenths for the next few laps, before racing was nullified again after Lewis Gilbert spun his Arden Motorsport car into the gravel at turn four.

Patricio made another good restart on lap 10, with three minutes remaining, while behind him, his brother was holding off the challenges of Lee in third. But at turn four the South Korean attempted a move around the outside and the two collided, with Lee's right rear corner sustaining race ending damage and Rodrigo ploughing through the gravel.

That incident promoted Bedrin to second, completing his podium clean sweep after his double win across races one and two, while Wilson climbed from fifth on the grid to his first top-three finish in GB3.

Rodin's Martin Molnar rose from 11th to fourth, avoiding all the drama, while Elite's Flynn Jackes was another to enjoy a surge through the field as he secured fifth.

Hillspeed's Dante Vinci held onto his sixth place starting position ahead of the recovering Fluxa, who worked his way back up after his early pit visit.

Hillspeed's Aurelia Nobels matched her best GB3 finish in eighth from 13th on the grid, ahead of teammate Peter Bouzinelos who had started one place behind her.

Hitech's Jacob Micallef completed the top-10 from 19th on the grid.

Bedrin's almost perfect weekend, and a colossal haul of 97 points, means he now holds a championship lead of 106 points heading to Silverstone at the start of August.
