Hitech’s Deagen Fairclough is targeting a stronger second half of the season from Silverstone onwards, after encountering misfortune at every round of the season so far.
The Briton is in his sophomore campaign in the GB3 Championship, having finished third in the drivers’ championship last year, but has had a much tougher start to 2026.
Fairclough has demonstrated his pace on multiple occasions this season, qualifying inside the top-five on all-but-one occasion and taking victory in the first Budapest race, but has often had bad luck work against him in races, retiring from six of the 11 contests so far.
“Motorsport can be cruel,” he said. “When it is out of your hands, and out of the team’s hands, it is what it is.”
Last time out, at the Red Bull Ring, Fairclough finished fourth in race one, before crossing the line in sixth in race two. However, due to a number of track limit infringements, he dropped to 17th.
“We’ve just got to take the positives where we can,” accepted Fairclough. “As a team, we know that we’ve got strong pace. It’s been tough against Rodin and VRD [because] they’ve been very fast everywhere.”
Fairclough enters the second half of the season 10th in the drivers’ standings, with more than three times fewer points than championship leader Nikita Bedrin. That said, he isn’t concerned by the troubles he has faced,
“I’m not dwelling on it too much,” he admitted. “I just try to have a strong result every time I get the car to the finish line.”
The GB3 Championship heads to Silverstone at the start of August, having already visited the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ for the season opener. Fairclough was quick throughout that weekend, winning the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award, but suffered retirements in races two and three.
“We’ve just got to keep our head up for Silverstone,” he said. “It’s a circuit that we are very strong at and one that I enjoy. I’m really looking forward to getting racing there and hopefully all the bad luck is out of the way in this first half of the season and we can finish with a good second half.”
