Spanish-British contender Edu Robinson has confirmed he’ll make a last-minute GB3 debut at Silverstone this weekend with Elite Motorsport.
The 17-year-old from Mallorca is currently competing in the Italian F4 Championship, where he’s already taken a victory at Vallelunga plus four pole positions and two additional podiums.
He also competed in Formula Regional last year, and having contested much of the pre-season testing programme in GB3 with Elite, he’s looking forward to racing in quicker machinery this weekend.
“I haven’t driven a quick car since the winter testing and this is my first race in a F3 regional-level championship since last year in FRECA, so I'm very excited” he commented. “Obviously I’ve come from F4 this year and I’ve been doing pretty good, so we have not high expectations, but I'd be really happy if I could get a good top 10 result.”
He’s currently enjoying his best season results-wise in single-seaters, and he feels he’s better prepared for the GB3 step up as a result. He was within the midfield runners in testing today, registering the 17th quickest time.
“Italian F4 is very competitive and it's one of the hardest F4 series out there right now. I think it's prepared me really well and I'm already up to speed almost today, especially during the high speed corners.
“So I think speed will not be the biggest problem, but I think it's now just getting used to fighting against bigger cars and more experienced drivers, which will be the trickier thing, but I think it should be good.”
He also reckons that his previous testing experience in GB3 has allowed him to get up to speed more quickly ahead of the weekend.
“I did the winter testing with the GB3 car, and I feel I'm already almost up to speed, so I think that's definitely helped massively. It’s obviously my first time back in the car since the winter testing, but if I could get a top-10 result this weekend, I'd be very happy with that.”
