Budapest resident Martin Molnar secured his maiden GB3 pole position in front of his home crowd in the first qualifying session at the Hungaroring on Saturday morning.
The Rodin Motorsport contender had previously qualified on the front row for the season opener at Silverstone, but he saved his milestone performance for his home event.
With the first race coming up at 13.30 local time, Molnar expressed his delight at claiming a breakthrough pole at a venue he lives just half an hour away from.
"I'm really happy that I could do it here," he commented. "It was a great quali and I'm really happy with the result, I'm really excited for the race."
Molnar had been third quickest in testing on Thursday and then in the combined practice results yesterday. He reckons he'd been building towards this result.
"We were getting better and better throughout the tests, and I knew that if we could make a step forward in qualifying we could get a good result. I'm really happy with how that qualifying went and I'm feeling really confident."
A growing crowd of fans has been assembling in the grandstands around the circuit, and Molnar could feel their presence during qualifying.
"It was great coming out of the pit lane and going down the main straight and seeing all the people there [in the grandstands]. It's a great feeling to do this in front of them."
When he last started from the front row, he led the field at Silverstone after a great start. Should he do so again this afternoon, he'll have a perfect opportunity to claim his first GB3 victory.
"I hope I can get a good start and hopefully deliver a win. That's going to be my goal, and it should be a great race I think."
